Farmers Market

As the Lowcountry abounds with fresh vegetables, farmers and consumers meet through farmers markets.

Among those markets is the one operating every Saturday throughout most of the year at the corner of Ft. Johnson and Folly roads. This “Seeds of Hope Farmers’ Market” is one of many throughout the state that is coordinated by the South Carolina Christian Action Council.

The project is a partnership between churches and small family farmers, originally developed in 1987, designed to create reliable markets for fresh produce and to increase the profits for the farmer by eliminating the middleman.

The James Island Presbyterian Foundation has sponsored two farmers from John’s Island, Alonzo and Juanita Pinckney, since 1990.

You can find Alonzo and Juanita almost every Saturday throughout the year between 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM. Just look for the tents loaded with fresh fruit and vegetables in the parking lot of the James Island Presbyterian Church!
